The Eyes of Texas are upon us! Today the University of Texas became a MPS customer. If you recall a while back, we ran a pilot on the Safety Stick and that stick did around 80k in in tickets on one stick at the front door of the student center in just one month’s time. It was by far our world record stick when it came to revenue. You would have thought that they would have signed up the next day but as our luck would play out, they had turn over in the parking department and the legal department and pretty much every department that was in on the decision. But you can’t keep a good safety stick down. The University of Texas is the real deal. UT is a top ten University in North America and provides us a ton of credibility when it comes to other colleges and Universities.
We continue to close deals every day, there is always something new happening here. We have the old tiger by the tail right now. The city of Cambridge Massachusetts has wanted to use our sticks now for over one year. But Cambridge has some weird old law that would not let them do that but last night they voted unanimously to change it. The city council voted to approve a home rule petition to use our equipment. The councilor who is championing it poked Cambridge and Boston in the eye by comparing them to Somerville. If you recall Somerville has our Safety Sticks.
“There’s a funny thing in the state law that only Boston and Cambridge have a particular section related to parking enforcement,” Councilor Patricia M. Nolan ’80 said. She drew a contrast with neighboring Somerville, which already implemented automated enforcement without a home rule petition.
“This will cost nothing, but it will really help enforcement of some of the traffic issues,” she said.”
